Q. How can I be involved in community engagement?

Community engagement is an ongoing process, not limited to one particular exhibition.  in fact, exhibition is often the final part of an engagement process.  If you would like to be involved on a regular basis, there are a number of ways you can do it.

  • Keep an eye out for notices of exhibition in the local papers and on Council's website
  • Look for neighbourhood specific activiites and forums - these may be adverstised through local businesses, letter box drops, noticeboards or other neighbourhood groups.
  • Contact council and tell us your particuarly araes of interest, so we can contact you as opportunities for engagement arise.

Engagement takes many different forms.  Sometimes it is a formal process, like an exhibition or ongoing membership of a committee.  It may be a single, large event, like the Futures Forum, or a series of small focus groups or meetings.  Engagement can also be informal - a community event or gathering where you can talk to someone from Council about what is important to you.

Q. What infomation is available about community engagement with Council?

Council has a Community Pariticpation Policy and Manual.  These documents can be found in the Library.

Later this year we are planning to develop a comprehensive engagement policy that will cover all forms of engagement, regardless of the issue.  The information you provide in the quick survey about engagement methods will help with this, but we will also be doing a more detailed consultation at that time.
